CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Snowbound. Trapped inside this cabin with Jamie Jackson for another day is not what I wanted. That was not the plan at all when I tried to get rid of him.

It had to be some kind of joke. We are not snowbound at all. He is making all of this up.

“No, we can’t be.” I kick off the blanket and get up, completely forgetting about my ankle, a sharp pain throbs as I move quickly.

“We are,” Jamie confirms.

I limp over to the door and swing it open. On the other side is snow blocking the way out. I have no idea how deep the snow was, but it covered the whole doorway.

“No, no, no!”

I start to dig my way out, but Jamie grabs me around the waist and pulls me away from the door, closing it behind us.

I hit his arms. “Let me go!”

“We can’t get out, Candice,” Jamie tells me. He sets me down near the blankets. “The snow is too deep. I have even tried the windows. We are trapped.”

Panic rushes over me. Trapped. Trapped in the middle of nowhere in a cabin, snowbound. I’m trapped in here with the guy I hated. And no one knows where we are because I was being stupid, thinking it was smart to lead Jamie out here in hope he gets lost so he can’t find his way back to the resort, and I could enjoy the rest of my vacation without worrying about him. But here I am, falling victim of my own karma that was meant for someone else. And now who knows what will happen all because of my stupid decision.

And out of all the days to be trapped in here with him, it has to be on Christmas Day!

I grab my phone that I had set on the table last night. My phone still displayed no signal.

“There’s no signal on my phone!” I say, turning to Jamie with wide eyes. “How are we going to get out of here if we can’t get a message out to anyone?”

Jamie takes a step towards me. “Everything is going to be okay, Candice. We are going to get out of here. I don’t know how, but we will.”

Tears prick at my eyelids. “How can everything be okay when we are trapped here? No one knows we are here.”

“I’m sure the people who live here will come back soon.”

“What if they don’t?”

“They will, Candice. They will.”

I sink to my knees, crying. “This is all my fault. I’m the one who got us into this mess.”

Jamie comes to my side and pulls me into his arms. I rest my head on his shoulder as I cry.

“I’m so sorry, Jamie. I shouldn’t have led you out here.”

Jamie rubs a hand up and down my back.

“It’s okay, Candice. We will find a way out of this. I’m sure there is going to be a search party for us, and as long as we keep the fire burning, someone might be able to see the smoke.
